A Christchurch Legacy Since 1955

MJ Robertson Plumbing has been serving Christchurch since 1955, when the business was founded by Malcolm Robertson.

Built on a reputation for dependable service, quality workmanship, and strong customer relationships, the company quickly became a trusted name in Christchurch plumbing.

In 1997, Malcolm retired and the business was purchased by long-time team members Paddy Bohan and Colin Williams. Both had deep connections with the company — Paddy joined the team in 1976, while Colin began his plumbing career as an apprentice with MJ Robertson Plumbing in 1986. Together they continued to build on the reputation Malcolm had established, serving generations of Christchurch homeowners and businesses.

Today, nearly 70 years after it was founded, MJ Robertson Plumbing & Gas enters its next chapter under the ownership of Anne Timpany and Raff Agalliu.

A Journey Across Three Countries

Anne grew up in New Zealand. Raff grew up in Albania. Their paths crossed in London, where they met, built a life together and a grew successful careers in the plumbing industry.

Raff began his plumbing and gas fitting career in 2004, working in residential maintenance and repairs across London. In 2009, Anne and Raff started their own plumbing business, serving homeowners, landlords, and property managers throughout North London.

What began as a small maintenance-focused operation grew steadily over the years. As their reputation grew, so did the scale and complexity of the work. The business evolved from residential maintenance into commercial plumbing contracting, delivering projects across London and working with some on the world’s most recognised buildings.

As the business expanded, Raff moved from working on the tools into leadership, estimating, and project management roles. His experience includes major commercial developments and prestigious sites including Buckingham Palace, Facebook’s London headquarters, Amazon’s London headquarters, and large-scale projects throughout Canary Wharf.

While Raff led the technical and operational side of the business, Anne focused on sales, marketing, customer service, and business operations. Together they built a company known for professionalism, strong communication, and a commitment to delivering a better customer experience in an industry where expectations are often low.

Coming Home

In 2020, Anne and Raff made the decision to move to New Zealand and begin a new chapter closer to family.

Over the following years, they continued building their experience within New Zealand’s trades and construction sectors. Raff worked in senior estimating and commercial leadership roles, while Anne held operational leadership positions and served on the board of Tradify, one of New Zealand’s leading software platforms for trades businesses.

But despite their experience in large-scale commercial contracting, they found themselves drawn back to the part of the industry they enjoyed most — helping customers solve problems, maintaining properties, and building long-term relationships.
Maintenance plumbing is where their journey began, and it remains the area of the industry they are most passionate about.

The Next Chapter for MJR

When the opportunity arose to purchase MJ Robertson Plumbing in 2026, it felt like the perfect fit.

The business had a proud history, a loyal customer base, and a reputation built over decades of honest service. Its maintenance-focused approach aligned closely with Anne and Raff’s own experience and vision for the future.

Today, MJR specialises in plumbing, gas fitting, hot water systems, backflow prevention, and maintenance services for homeowners, property managers, facilities managers, and commercial clients throughout Christchurch.

While the tools, technology, and customer expectations have evolved over the years, the principles that built MJR remain unchanged.

We believe trades businesses should communicate clearly, arrive when they say they will, take pride in their work, and genuinely care about solving problems.
